The Skillman Foundation Opens Afterschool and Summer Program Request for Proposals this Month

DETROIT – The Skillman Foundation has opened a Request for Proposals (RFP) in December 2019 through January 29, 2020 for its 2020 Call For Collaboration grants for Detroit youth-serving organizations.

Those working in or with afterschool program providers, schools, community centers, parks and recreation, libraries, churches, colleges/universities, or other youth-serving organizations in the city are invited to submit their grant proposals to the Foundation for support of afterschool and/or summer experiences for Detroit kids. The Foundation’s goal is to increase Detroit children’s access to and engagement in meaningful development experiences that help them build the knowledge, skills, and relationships they need to succeed in school and beyond.

The Foundation hosted an information webinar to detail the RFP’s purpose and eligibility guidelines and is an opportunity to engage with The Skillman Foundation regarding its goals in supporting afterschool and summer experiences for Detroit kids. The webinar video can be found here.

Proposals are due to the Foundation on January 29, 2020. You can find the application here and the capability statement form (referenced in the application) here.

The Foundation is also hosting office hours for organizations interested in applying. Those wishing to attend can sign up here.

Questions about the Call For Collaboration and/or the informational webinar can be directed to Kurt Griggs-Swanson, program assistant, at  kswanson@skillman.org.

The Skillman Foundation

The Skillman Foundation is a grantmaking organization established in 1960 by Rose Skillman. We have granted out more than $730 million and have served as a vocal advocate to strengthen K-12 education, afterschool programming, child-centered neighborhoods, youth and community leadership, and racial equity and justice.

We are in the process of developing a new strategic framework, co-designed with Detroit youth and their champions.
