Policy & Systems
Calls to reimagine education ring out from Detroit and echo across our state. How can we help ensure they are heard and enacted?
The aim of our Policy & Systems work is to elevate Detroiters’ perspectives in education policy. We want to see education policy be informed by and responsive to the needs and priorities defined by Detroiters.
Through our Policy & Systems work, we fund education policy organizations and coalitions, and support aligned action between these policy movers and Detroit ground builders (youth, parents, educators, and community members). We do not fund elected or appointed government officials or partisan organizations.
We look for ways to elevate Detroiters’ perspectives throughout every aspect of the policy process, from design to implementation. We:
- Monitor when, where, and how education policy decisions are being made, seeking opportunities to insert the wisdom and lived experiences of people most impacted by the education system in Detroit.
- Fund education policy organizations to expand their constituency base and grow their influence.
- Cultivate relationships with and across policy leaders, researchers, and Detroit ground builders.
- Support the implementation of policy to ensure it works for the Detroit education system and leads to positive outcomes for Detroit youth.
