Tyler Parlor

If you want to fly, you have to give up the [things] that weigh you down.

Tyler Parlor (she/her) joined The Skillman Foundation in 2024 for a Communications Fellowship, in partnership with the Council of Michigan Foundations. Tyler will manage a variety of storytelling projects including the ‘Rose for Detroit Blog’, the ‘Let’s Talk’ virtual conversation series, the E-newsletter, and more. Tyler will also contribute as a copy editor for internal materials and other staff writings.

Passionate about narrative shift, Tyler is a Detroit Documenter with Outlier Media and serves a Detroit based nonprofit incorporated for the charitable and educational purposes of increasing access to information, experience, and ultimately knowledge.

Born in the great city of Detroit, MI, Tyler is from District 1. She earned a Bachelor of Art in Psychology from Oberlin College where she made history as Captain of the school’s first-ever Championship Women’s Basketball team, participated in Oberlin’s Research Fellowship, and was a proud librarian.

She is an inaugural member of the Change Collective, a national leadership network for rising local leaders who are passionate about solving issues in their communities and combating social isolation, political polarization, and civic disengagement. 

Tyler enjoys having candid conversations about truth and transformation, listening to real stories, and learning from the connections she makes.
