Preston Welborne (21) recently graduated cum laude from Oakland Community College with an Associate Degree in cinematic arts. He served as vice-president of leadership for the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and as an OCC Student Ambassador. He is currently a junior at the University of Michigan pursuing a bachelor’s degree in film, television, and media. His passions are embedded in photography, film, and commercial production industries. A budding entrepreneur who has produced projects for Detroit Digital Media and Oakland Community College, Preston’s goal is to develop his company, PFP Studios, LLC, into a leading production house that produces, writes, and consults on major projects.

Born into a family of Detroit community leaders, he grew up with a deep pride for making a difference in his community. He values embodying love for family; respecting diversity in every form; developing a personal and community work ethic; and expressing creative talents through the arts. While serving on The Skillman Foundation’s President’s Youth Council, he will emphasize the need to create meaningful and memorable leadership and networking opportunities for more youth in Detroit. As a Detroit Promise Scholar, Preston would like to increase community awareness of the program and its ability to transform lives and help young people achieve their goals through educational and networking opportunities. He hopes to influence an increase of opportunities in the arts that bring together people of different ages, races, religions, and cultures.
