Detroit youth possess genius. Their talent comes in all forms: academics, arts, sports, service to the community, and more.

To celebrate Detroit genius, we asked the community-at-large to let us know of young people who astonish and inspire.

Here, we highlight honorees 11 through 20.

Brenda Taylor Calhoun

Age: 16
Genius: Beauty Entrepreneur

Brenda created her own line of lip gloss, which she sells to help her family and community.

Brianna Brown

Age: 17
Genius: Excellent Equestrian

Brianna’s skills with horses has earned her a scholarship to Albion College and jobs at top equestrian organizations.

Camilla-Isabella Cantu

Genius: Ground-Breaking Musician

Camilla-Isabella co-founded Mariachi Feminil Detroit, the first all-women mariachi band in Michigan.

Camira Scott

Age: 12
Genius: Peace Maker

Camira is an honors student who serves as a dedicated volunteer with anti-bullying and unity organizations.

Genius: Dedicated Community Servant

A student at Michigan State University, Deandrea provides tax prep assistance through the City of Detroit Department of Neighborhoods and the Detroit Land Bank Authority to promote homeownership.

Demacio Soto

Age: 24
Genius: International Artist & Musician

Demacio is a celebrated muralist and musician who performs internationally.

Hunter Bailey

Age: 8
Genius: Super Reader

Bates Academy student Hunter Bailey never puts down a book until it’s time to move on to the next. He also recites poetry from memory.
