Announcing the 2025 Skillman Visionary Awards

Updated Coronavirus COVID-19 Procedures & Resources

The Skillman Foundation team is working remotely.
Our offices will be closed until April 30, 2020

for coronavirus Covid-19 safety.

While our team is remote, we continue our committed support of Detroit children, families, and the organizations that serve them during this critical time.

In April, we will monitor local and national recommendations to reassess our office policy, with staff and community well-being as our top priority.

Managing Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Workplace: This webinar, presented by Dykema, discusses what duty employers have to protect employees, recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, potential Family and Medical Leave Act obligations, the impact of reasonable accommodations, what personnel policies may be implicated, and whether updates to employer policies are in order. Other issues raised revolve around travel restrictions, compensation problems for employees who miss work voluntarily or otherwise, and how best to communicate with employees about this evolving situation.

The Skillman Foundation

The Skillman Foundation is a grantmaking organization established in 1960 by Rose Skillman. We have granted out more than $730 million and have served as a vocal advocate to strengthen K-12 education, afterschool programming, child-centered neighborhoods, youth and community leadership, and racial equity and justice.

We are in the process of developing a new strategic framework, co-designed with Detroit youth and their champions.
