Voices for Education
Who has a say in education?
At The Skillman Foundation, we believe students, families, and educators are at the top of that list. We also know it will take many people from different perspectives, sectors, and communities working together toward a shared vision to make real and lasting change. Voices for Education supports media, storytelling, and communications that elevate what’s happening in K-12 schools today, with a focus on solutions for improvement.

Our Voices for Education grants support:
1
Education Journalism
We fund education reporting in Detroit and at the state level that provides the public with sound information about education challenges, solutions, and accountability.
2
Detroit Voices
We fund storytelling projects that position Detroit students, educators, and advocates as influential storytellers and policy-shaping voices.
3
Aligning Education Advocates
We fund efforts that provide our grant partners and other education advocates with communications strategies and tools that help them to communicate in effective, reinforcing ways while maintaining their own authentic voices.
4
Platforms for Common Ground
We support public platforms that model constructive conversations across differences, surface shared values, and move people toward connection and aligned action for education systems change.
