This grant will provide continued support for Every School Day Counts Detroit (ESDCD) coalition of community partners and stakeholders through the coalition’s fiduciary relationship with Urban Neighborhood Initiatives. ESDCD is committed to exploring the causes of chronic absence and lowering chronic absence rates in Detroit. This grant will allow the coalition to provide ongoing technical assistance to district and charter school principals to build skills to address chronic absence and build positive climate and culture, ongoing support to a community of practice among fourteen out of school time organizations to foster best practices in attendance, ongoing support of a comprehensive pilot in the five schools of Earhart, Trix Academy, Detroit Leadership Academy K-8 and High School, and Gompers which combines elements of technical assistance, wraparound services, and communications (utilizing youth voice), as well as addressing policy and practice around Detroit’ public transportation systems as a key attendance solution
