Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation

$180,000.00

This grant will continue support for Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation (DHDC) to provide year-round STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) exposure programming, holistic support, and mentorship to 90 middle school youth as an introduction to high-school career pathways it offers. It will fund programming while strengthening the long-term goal of more equitable access to STEAM in Detroit’s college and career ecosystem. Ongoing healing-centered engagement will be incorporated as an asset-based and culturally rooted approach to programming. This program includes partnership with General Motors and Ford for mentorship and instruction, College of Creative Studies for digital design workshops. Several schools provide staff to support their students while in the DHDC STEAM makerspace: Cesar Chavez Academy, Academy of the Americas, Holy Redeemer, Earhart, and Neinas. The grant also includes a partnership with Inception for evidence-based wellness and mental health supports
