Community Initiatives

$250,000

This grant will continue support of Attendance Works (AW) (through their fiduciary relationship with Community Initiatives) to strengthen system and school-level capacity to implement data-driven approaches to reduce rates of chronic absenteeism in DPSCD and charter schools. AW will deliver broad-based professional development, lifting evidence-based best practices to reduce chronic absence (CA); additionally, a subset of these schools will receive deeper technical assistance and site-based coaching from AW. All 100 DPSCD schools will receive broad learning, and 27 schools will receive a second year of targeted coaching; 20 charter schools will receive both the broad training and more intensive support. With this important support, citywide CA rates are targeted to decrease by five to eight percent citywide.
