This grant will continue to support the Skillman BMe Vanguard Fellowship to cultivate Black Detroit leaders whose dedication to improving equity in Detroit—particularly for young people—has earned them the respect of their peers and community. The 2023 fellowship will consist of 10 Black leaders—7 first-time fellows in their 20s and 3 exceptional returning fellows from previous cohorts—to support the expansion of young Black leaders’ knowledge, networks, and influence to powerfully advocate for an inclusive, prosperous, racially just Detroit. Each fellow will receive $10,000 seed capital to support their ideas for change.
