Community Initiatives are leading examples of the proactive, collaborative approach used by the Foundation to bringing lasting and positive change to the lives of Detroit children. Rather than only responding with grant dollars to projects proposed by partners in the community, the Foundation plays an active role in identifying key issues, working closely with partners to shape a community-informed response to these issues, and using every tool at our disposal to pursue lasting change for our city’s youth.
Urban Neighborhood Initiatives, Inc.
Urban Neighborhood Initiatives' chronic absence intervention work is of great contribution toward the Coalition for the Future of Detroit Schoolchildren's priority of "getting serious about attendance." UNI has led the citywide table on chronic absenteeism efforts since 2013.
Additionally, in 2016, UNI was designated a lead agency for the city's summer jobs program, Grow Detroit's Young Talent.
