Our Youth Council Directed $200k to These Detroit Nonprofits

This grant provides continued support to BookNook, a technology-based literacy tutoring support, to provide in-school and out-of-school literacy services to 800 K-8 students during summer 2022 and the 2022-23 school year. BookNook will train and support 200 mentors to support a one-on-one and small group (one mentor to three youth) programming format. To execute this work, BookNook will partner with fourteen school and community partner sites, with in-school partners such as Cornerstone Schools, McDowell K-8, and out-of-school partners like Brilliant Detroit and Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL). This grant expands access and engagement to high-impact individualized literacy supports for Detroit students, during and after the school day.
