Mikael Thornton is an intern at the Skillman Foundation through his high school’s corporate work-study program. In his role, Mikael manages the front desk, provides support to Foundation staff, and assists with set up for internal and external meetings.
Mikael is also a junior at Detroit Cristo Rey High School. As a student, he appreciates Cristo Rey’s dedication to young people’s success as seen through the school’s 100 percent college acceptance rate for seniors.
After graduating from high school, Mikael wants to go to the University of Michigan or Michigan State University to study photography, music, or sports management.
Mikael is also a passionate athlete and a member of Cristo Rey’s track team. He has been running competitively since 8th grade and, though he is unsure if he wants to pursue a future in track and field in college, he believes the hard work, determination, and self-belief he has built participating in the sport makes him the young man he is today.
Outside of running, Mikael’s other hobbies include playing video games, watching Netflix, and working out to stay in shape.
