In December 2018, Deloitte Michigan Managing Partner Mark Davidoff and Crain Communications President KC Crain gathered a group of diverse business and community leaders for a roundtable discussion immediately following Michigan’s gubernatorial election. The discussion focused on how the group could help support newly-elected governor Gretchen Whitmer and her administration in creating sustainable success for Michigan today and for the future.

Throughout the conversation, participants touched on the tremendous progress that has been made within the state over the last eight years but also acknowledged the challenges still ahead. While participants did not always agree on a single strategy to tackle the issues raised, there was a consensus that Governor Whitmer and her administration would benefit from unified support and engagement from corporate and community leaders.

The Skillman Foundation

The Skillman Foundation is a grantmaking organization established in 1960 by Rose Skillman. We have granted out more than $730 million and have served as a vocal advocate to strengthen K-12 education, afterschool programming, child-centered neighborhoods, youth and community leadership, and racial equity and justice.

We are in the process of developing a new strategic framework, co-designed with Detroit youth and their champions.
