School Choice in Urban America
Wayne State University’s College of Education is hosting School Choice in Urban America: Prospects and Challenges on Wednesday, April 18, 2018. The program will include a debate about the possibilities and potential risks related to public school choice and private school vouchers. The event will also include a discussion with faculty experts and national and local leaders about our collective views and vision for education in our city, communities and country.
Featured speakers include:
• Richard D. Kahlenberg, senior fellow, The Century Foundation
• Patrick J. Wolf, Ph.D., professor and 21st Century Endowed Chair in School Choice, University of Arkansas
• Tonya Allen, president and chief executive officer, The Skillman Foundation
• Sarah Winchell Lenhoff, Ph.D., assistant professor of educational leadership and policy studies, Wayne State University
• Nikolai Vitti, Ed.D., superintendent, Detroit Public Schools Community District
Lloyd C. Crews, Ph.D., an alumnus of the College of Education and a member of the Southfield City Council, will serve as moderator. This symposium is one of six symposia developed in honor of the university’s sesquicentennial.
Remarks from President M. Roy Wilson and a reception begin at 5 p.m., and the program starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. This event is free and open to the public. Free parking is available in Structure 1.
