Tonya Allen named Chief Operating Officer; 3 other staff also promoted

DETROIT – Tonya Allen has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer, Skillman Foundation President & CEO Carol Goss has announced. Allen will now hold the titles of Chief Operating Officer & Vice President of Program. She will continue to oversee all of the Foundation’s grantmaking, as well as become second in command at the Foundation. In her new role, Allen will also have responsibility for the Foundation's communications & technology operations and talent development.

“This promotion is well-deserved and reflects the monumental tasks that Tonya often undertakes on behalf of the Foundation,” Goss said.

Allen, who is the architect of the Foundation’s Good Neighborhoods program, joined the Foundation in 2004 as a program director, and was promoted to vice president of program in 2007. She oversees all three of the Foundation’s program areas.

Goss also announced three other promotions: Edward S. Egnatios, to program director, neighborhoods; Kristen McDonald, to program director, education; and Steven Catallo, to director of investments.

Created in 1960, The Skillman Foundation is a private philanthropy whose chief aim is to help develop good schools and good neighborhoods for children. Though grants are made throughout metropolitan Detroit, most grants are directed at six Detroit neighborhoods – Brightmoor, Osborn, Cody Rouge, Chadsey Condon, Northend Central Woodward and Southwest Detroit Neighborhoods – and toward innovative and successful schools throughout the city of Detroit.
