The Skillman Foundation announces internal promotions and a new staff hire

staff update May 2016

The Skillman Foundation announces two internal promotions and welcomes a new staff member.

Punita Thurman has been promoted from senior program officer to program director. Thurman continues to lead the Foundation’s education portfolio. She has also assumed responsibility of the Detroit Children’s Fund, an affiliate charitable organization of the Skillman Foundation, and serves as its interim executive director. She replaces Chris Uhl in this capacity.

Uhl recently resigned from the roles of vice president of social innovation for the Skillman Foundation and executive director of the Detroit Children’s Fund to serve as vice president of corporate giving at Rock Ventures, LLC.

Paty Hinojosa has been promoted from program officer to senior program officer, leading the Foundation’s social innovation investments. In her new role, Hinojosa will be chiefly responsible for implementing new capital strategies, including program-related investments and loan guarantees. Hinojosa is a Certified Public Accountant who started her career at the Foundation in 2008 as a controller and assistant treasurer.

Lauren Hawkins joined the Skillman Foundation as controller. Hawkins comes to the Foundation after working as an assurance manager at Plante Moran. She will support the accounting and tax functions for the Foundation.
