New director of investment hired

Making the announcement, Kari Schlachtenhaufen, President and CEO of The Skillman Foundation said, "In these difficult economic times, we are focused on improving investment results without increasing risk. We are being more diversified in our asset mix, hence we created a new position to manage our increased allocation to alternative investments."

Alan Harris, CFA, was appointed the Director of Investments, responsible for managing the Foundation's investment portfolio, and in particular, the development of alternative investments including hedge funds, private equity and real estate.

Harris joins The Skillman Foundation with more than 14 years of experience as finance professional. Most recently, he worked at Munder Capital Management as a senior portfolio manager.

Harris received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan. He also is a Chartered Financial Analyst and Public Awareness Chairman for the Investment Analyst Society of Detroit, as well as a member of Detroit Financial Analyst Society.

Julie Ermler joins The Skillman Foundation as accounting manager, responsible for various accounting functions including financial statements and the budget. In addition, she is also responsible for administering the Skillman Scholars College program.

Ermler graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in economics as well as a Master in Business Administration. She expects to receive her certificate as a Certified Public Accountant in the near future. Before joining the Foundation, she worked on the audit staff at PricewaterhouseCoopers, an international management services company.
