Mentoring Opportunities Available for Professional Artists

Through several arts education programs offered by the Arts League of Michigan, students grow artistically with hands-on training, as well as learn the economic side of pursuing a successful career in art from mentors.

The League’s three programs include: Arts in the Park, a summer program for students in grades 7-12 that allows mentors the opportunity to work with youth in a nature setting for ten days, four hours per day; Artists Mentor in Residence, an after school program that matches practicing artists with elementary and middle school students in a hands-on arts training experience; and, Art in the Studio, a fall program where students grades 7-12 work with a professional artist in a studio setting.

Anna Garner, program manager for the Arts League of Michigan says students from all backgrounds benefit from the programs. The young people grow artistically as well as socially.

“It’s amazing how the arts bring them together,” Garner said. “They also learn how to create a piece in different mediums.”
