Forgotten Harvest launches Project Fresh
Forgotten Harvest plans to rescue fresh fruit, prepared and other perishable food products from producers, retailers and distributors, and distribute them free of charge to emergency food providers in poor neighborhoods.
A process will be implemented to select some 40 emergency food providers out of a total of 500 in the metro Detroit area, to receive the fresh food supply. Criteria for selection will include non-profit tax status, safe food handling certification, and the neighborhoods served.
Forgotten Harvest is one of the 22 grant proposals approved by the board of trustees of The Skillman Foundation at the February board meeting. For a list of the other grants, check the New Foundation Grants section on our What We Fund page of our website.
