'Boys of Color' conference to focus on innovative strategies

DETROIT — The effects of violence and  poverty and the lack of opportunity for young African-American men will be the topic at the "Boys of Color: Perilous Times" conference Nov. 20 at Marygrove College.

National experts including Shawn Dove, manager of the Campaign for Black Male Achievement, and nationally-recognized thought leader Loren Harris will lead a discussion on the issues, while participants will work together to develop innovative strategies to tackle complex challenges facing black and brown boys. The conference is organized by The Skillman Foundation and hosted by Marygrove College, with additional support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan and the University of Michigan School of Social Work.
