50 Promising Youth Legacy Awards
This scholarship program, in partnership with the Coleman A. Young Foundation, was developed to commemorate The Skillman Foundation’s 50th anniversary. The program provides $10,000 awards for post-secondary education to 50 young people who have exhibited extraordinary leadership and demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the community. Winners were announced Aug. 22, 2011.
These awards recognize young people as emerging leaders and current contributors to making a difference in their community, ensure that Detroit and Southeastern Michigan youth attend and graduate from college, and encourage young leaders to return, serve and contribute to the revitalization of Detroit and the state of Michigan. In addition to the financial award, selected recipients will have access to mentoring and other critical supports to ensure successful matriculation through post-secondary education.
