Current Strategies
The Foundation’s theory of change is that young people are more likely to be safe, healthy, well educated and prepared for adulthood (1) when they are embedded in a strong system of supports and opportunities, (2) when they attend high quality schools, (3) when their neighborhoods have the capacities and resources to support youth and families, and (4) when broader systems and policies create conditions under which youth can thrive. The Good Neighborhoods strategies include:
Transform Target Communities
Fuel community transformation by increasing public and private investments to strengthen services and impact in targeted neighborhoods through a combination of grantmaking and changemaking efforts.
Develop People and Places
Enable a cadre of natural helpers and maximize the assets, capacity and impact through neighborhood-wide collaboration and partnerships. Create safe and healthy places for children and families to live and play.
Concentrate High Quality Programs and Services for Children in the Neighborhoods
Young people are the future and sustainability for community transformation. Central to the work is the creation of a system of high-quality, accessible, youth development programs that support academic achievement, develop leadership abilities, and promote safe and productive lifestyles. The support system also includes establishing effective, neighborhood-based human service delivery systems for children, youth and families.
Increase Income, Assets and Wealth for Families
An important component of building the resiliency of children and families is improving their economic well-being through wealth-building strategies, including youth employment.
